The below list contains items deemed essential in our household to which I can’t find a non single use plastic alternative. Fortunately, this challenge just started so nothing yet!
- Cheese: it is all wrapped in plastic and if you try to get a larger piece cut, the plastic from that larger piece is replaced.
- You can play cheese roulette and just get what others are ordering to avoid any additional plastic waste.
- Dried pasta: all the boxes have a little plastic window
- Found this on Loop!
- They sell this in bulk at some grocery stores too.
- Olive oil: is there someplace that allows you to refill containers?
- Loop has an extra virgin olive oil. Still not solution for a cooking oil though.
- Berries: All fresh berries in the grocery store are packaged in plastic containers. Frozen berries come in plastic bags.
- Home Brewing Ingredients: Large quantities of grains, hops, and yeast all seem to only be sold in plastic containers.
- Paper towels: We have yet to find paper towels that aren’t sold in plastic wrapping. Looks like re-usable towels only in our kitchen for the foreseeable future.
- Dog food: We have yet to find dog food that does not come in a plastic bag. At least it is often sold in bulk though to reduce the amount of packaging.
